Reverse Selfie Campaign

Student Work

For this Illustration project, we were tasked with only working with physical items to illustrate everything but body text. Wanting to use this project to raise awareness for a social issue, I settled on Dove’s “Reverse Selfie” campaign – focused on the effects of FaceTune apps and social media in preteen girls and the long term self esteem issues we’ll see in this generation.

For my primary collage you see on the magazine cover and all campaign collateral, I used different torn images to show a young, normal teen girl on the left side vs. the after-effects of her using facetune on the right. I used broken glass on the right side to tie in the idea of digital beauty and the idea of this is what happens behind the screen. I also featured items we associate with physical beauty like nail polish and makeup next to cutouts of young girls and social media comments. In total this campaign consisted of a magazine cover and article spread feature, a social media takeover, billboard, bus-stop ad, and an infograph.
