For this project, we had to select a poet from a given list and create a book sleeve and page spread for a “complete works” book. The guideline for the project was that the design and type could only be created using wet media, my methods being watercolors and ink.

I wanted to tie in the nature themes of Dickinson’s work along with the fact that she studied botany and collected a herbarium that is now at Harvard in my cover, so I did this by pressing leaves and watercoloring florals. For the spread, I illustrated a bird to tie in the poem I chose “Hope is the Thing With Feather’s” and used the element of pressed leaves again.
